Pope Pius IX in 1866 gave the Icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help to the Redemptorist Congregation with the injunction: “make her known throughout the world”. Since then, it has been a special part of the Redemptorist apostolate to spread this devotion wherever they go.
In Nigeria, the Redemptorists have been faithfully making her known through the popular Icon visitation missions through most arch/dioceses in the country. The Icon has become a household presence of our Lady in thousands of catholic homes in Nigeria. Through these icon pilgrimages the Confraternity of our Mother of Perpetual Help has spread to no less than 39 dioceses with a membership strength of about ten thousand devotees. We have a young and vibrant mission team who joyfully make her known to her children everywhere.
